Hail all and welcome, to the Duke and Duchess podcast! In this episode we conclude the published materials in the Gentlemen Bastards Sequence with the novel The Republic of Thieves.
We began this episode with an outline. And then we used that outline to clean our nether regions. This show goes off the rails….in a good way. Because, lets face it, trains are limited in their functionality. And you would ride in a dune-buggy if you could, right. I mean on any day ending in a “Y” you can find me riding around….
….we did it again, didn’t we?
Let’s try again.
In this episode the whole game changes. The bodycount is high. The star crossed lovers have went there separate ways. And we finally get the villain that we deserve. We spend a great deal of time discussing the relative merits of The Republic of Thieves and the Gentlemen Bastards series overall.
We close this episode by revealing the book that we will cover next…..
….and that is….
The Way of Kings by Brandon Sanderson!
We will begin that book in episode 58 scheduled to come out some time around July 22nd. During that episode we will cover the entire Part One…..that’s about 180 pages according to my kindle. We are reading such a large chunk because we are taking a couple of weeks off…so we’ll have lots of time to read. Also, we find it’s helpful to start off a new book with a big chunk. As we move forward we will read much smaller sections; typically about 50-60 pages.
In episode 57 we will cover Paper Girls trade paperback #4.
Predictions from Chad:
- The Falconer will take over the power vacuum in Karthain, using the war in the Marrows as a tool.
- Patience killed Lamor Acanthus’ wife in grief over her own husbands death.
- Locke and the Falconer will die at (roughly) the same time.
- Moncraine was responsible for the war in the Marrows.
Predictions from Liz:
- Locke struggles to understand whether he is Lamore Acanthus – but he will actually be “himself” and not the Lamore Acanthus of old.
- Sabetha will be faced with Amadine’s choice to sacrifice herself or be beholden to someone and will ultimately choose to sacrifice herself
- Locke will sacrifice himself to save others.
